It never fails, there are those parties or situations that come up last minute and suddenly you find yourself scrambling for a costume. No, you don’t want to be Elsa, no you don’t want to be a clown, but what could you not spend a fortune on and still look great? When did Halloween become all about the “sexy” whatever? Even worse, everyone wants something totally creative not just witch or doctor or fireman. Believe it or not, there is plenty you can do with simple items in your closet; just look deeper.
80s Movie Characters
Now you know you or someone in your family has some great 80s clothes lying around. One of the best things about some of the older movies is there is some sort of iconic outfit that will clearly make the character pop. Even better, many of the clothes are more comfortable today than they were then due to fun, stretchy materials. Just be sure to have the main pieces, the right layers and it won’t be hard for anyone to tell who you are.
A New Take on a Ghost
Gone are the days of sheets and holes. Now you can put on some pale white paint and you are a ghost, a classy ghost at that! Best of all you simply need to pick a fancy dress or outfit from your closet, preferably fairly simple and in shades of black and gray. You become the haunting of the hotel or the house everyone sees today without all the blood and gore.
This is a fun one and fairly simple to do. Any white clothes make the background and then you have to make the circles. Felt is a great way to go but you can use paper if you don’t have time to run the fabric shop. A little hot glue and the next thing you know you are the classic board game. Of course you can easily do this with things like Candyland and Battleship too.
A little bit of pink goes a long way when it comes to making you the sexy lingerie company. Cardboard makes the back, just use paint or wrapping paper to make the stripes. For your fluffing you can use the stuffing from old bags that you have lying around. Underneath you can be as fancy or as simple as you want, just make sure you are all pink. Just be careful, some people might want to unwrap the package.
All of these costumes are meant to be something you can do at the last minute. While coming up with the “perfect” costume can be intimidating, just think of the costume that is the most fun for you. It isn’t about impressing anyone, just about having fun. All of these ideas and the ones floating around in your head will make for excellent pictures and you will even be able to fit in a photo booth.
When it comes to Homecoming there is more than just the high school dance variety. Homecoming on college campuses focus more closely on the football game as well as a variety of other events. All of these events can be commemorated with photos and made more complete with a photo booth. Whether it is a booth at the game, the bonfire or the dance itself, there are lots of props and ideas to consider.
The Game Booth
There are all sorts of backdrops you can play with if you do a photo booth pre-game. Make sure you pull out pom poms and other decorations that go with the game idea. If you have access to a cardboard cutout of some of the players it can add to the posing in the booth itself. You might even want a bit of face paint or a helmet to really make the look complete.
The Bonfire Booth
Often the night before the big game there is a bonfire. Fire backdrops can be lots of fun for students. You can have a variety of props they can act like they are throwing on the fire. This should include the enemy jerseys, maybe a stuffed animal of their mascot; really anything that would be fun to pretend to burn.
When it comes to the Homecoming dance consider the location of the photo booth. While you don’t want it far from the dance floor itself, it can be fun to have separate music for vamping in the photo booth. Consider letting those who are taking the photos choose their own “theme” song. This can really ramp up the creativity when it comes to poses.
Consider Girl Sports Too
Despite the fact that homecoming usually focuses on football, don’t be sexist. There are often other games going on like volleyball, swimming or field hockey. Consider adding some props that associate with these games as well. It will be more inclusive and can allow for more interaction between different types of people.
No matter what type of photo booth you put together for homecoming, you are sure to get photos that will last a lifetime. Don’t forget to encourage social media sharing complete with hashtags. You might be surprised at how quickly you will be trending on Instagram and Twitter.
Part of the fun when it comes to Halloween is coming up with new and creative ways to decorate. This can turn the photos from your party into memorable moments that people will want to post in their house. If you do your decorating right, you can even capture some of these pieces inside a photo booth so they are front and center for everyone’s pictures.
Spider Web Decorations
Everyone knows how to put up a spider web, but you can take it one level further. Wrapping fake bugs and skulls in a thicker spider web and hanging them from the ceiling gives a spooky cocoon effect. You can even leave a few on the table to use as props for pictures.
Syringe Jello Shots
For a kid party or an adult party these are fun. Take the plastic syringes you use to give kids their medicine and fill them with red Jello, with or without alcohol. This is a fun way to drink the Jello and it makes for a very spooky prop in photos. If you want to get creative you can use other colors of Jello as well.
Tonic Water Glow
If you plan on having black light, and why wouldn’t you, make sure to feature drinks that have tonic water. Tonic water will make almost any clear beverage glow. It gives a great effect to the glass and creates a new kind of light all over the room. Plus it doesn’t change the taste of drinks that already call for it.
Christmas Light Photos
Using orange colored Christmas lights you can deface some of your old photos, preferably copies. Simply put the orange lights in the place of the eyes and hang them around the venue. This is another great prop to include outside the photo booth. It works best if you get the battery operated ones so you don’t have to have a power source.
Glow Stick Water Balloons
Pop a glow stick in a water balloon and seal it up. Then put the water balloon in white stocking and hang it from the ceiling. These glowing orbs are a unique form of light and add to a eeriness, especially on a dance floor. You can even make the ropes look like nooses if you are so inclined.
These are just a few ways to make your Halloween decorations really stand out. People will be talking about your event for weeks after. You may even want to include a few “do it yourself” options on the table outside the photo booth to see what creations your guests come up with on their own.
It is funny when you think about how you live out a whole relationship in a series of four photos. There is much thought that goes into what to do in the photo booth. The relationship between two people or a group of people comes to life and alters as each flash goes off. Each image captures a new feeling and a new moment that can relate directly to a whole lifetime.
The first picture in the photo booth is often the most subdued. It takes a minute to think of what you might want to do. In some of the photos, not everyone is settled yet, the flash goes too quickly or someone is pointing trying to figure out the spacing. This is just like the beginning of any relationship, trying to figure it out, choosing the balance.
Suddenly after the flash goes off everyone gets a spark of inspiration. This is the moment where things get silly, where you start trying to impress one another and make things more interesting. This photo usually shows a bit more what people are really like, a little glimpse into their heart.
The next step is the adolescence of the relationship. It is where you are suddenly trying to find your balance between being a single and then becoming a couple. This photo tends to be a bit more sexy or flirty than the rest. Whether it is a full on kiss, a simple look or something more, this photo shows the blossoming into adulthood.
The last photo is where things get real. This photo shows the comfort level, the simplicity of just being together. Whether cuddled close or just sitting looking straight forward there is a comfort in the closeness. There is joy in the simplicity, just as there is in life.
This is how your life in a photo booth strip relates directly to your relationship as a whole. Whether you are in the beginning of one or you have been together for years it is difficult not to live out all the cycles in a single sitting. There is just something about four pictures that tends to show the beginning, middle and final stages of relationship. Photo booths are a form of magic in this simple, yet glorious way.
